The Nagar Valley

One of the most beautiful valleys of the Gilgit-Baltistan of Pakistan,the valley is administratively subdivided into two tehsils namely Nagar-1 and Nagar-2. Nagar is truly one of the finest gems in the crown of Gilgit-Baltistan.Nagar lies at an elevation of 2,438m (7,999 feet) and is most well-known for the great peak of Rakaposhi that soars majestically over Nagar at a height of 7,788m (25,561ft) . . The Spantik peak (Golden peak) is another attraction for mountaineers.

Brushaski main language of Nagar is as sweet as its people. The scenic splendor and peace of this valley has been unmarred by the wild race of time. Agriculture still remains the main source of income in this region and local festivals add to the colorful culture of the vale. The people of Nagar are master Polo-players, skilled craftsmen and true to their soil. The Karakuram Highway, the highest trade route in the world, passes through the valleys of Nagar, and enters into Hunza at the spot of Pisan after crossing “Hunza-Nagar River”. This river is fed by 29 small and big glaciers and ice peaks of Nagar.

The climate of Nagar remains pleasant from mid-April to the end of September. The maximum temperature in summer during the day is 13°C. The weather becomes very cold during the winter, mainly from October to end of March. The minimum temperature can be -14°C.

A heaven for nature-lovers, Nagar offers splendid vistas of clear blue skies, emerald green fields splotched with bright colors of blossoming fruit trees, crystal clear glacial springs and a myriad of flora and fauna. A hidden secret, tucked cozily between some of the most majestic mountain ranges in the world, Nagar is surely tourist delight that offers a rare escape from the everyday craze of the modern world.
