Department of Neurology of PIMS/SZABMU is the only department in public sector in twin cities providing care to neurology patients and postgraduate training in neurology. The faculty of the department includes

Department has 20 general beds and 4 beds in ward for high dependency care. The turn over of admission and discharges is 6-8 per day in ward and about 20-25 patients are seen in Emergency and 150-175 in OPD daily. Department has an Electrophysiology centre where neurodiagnostic facilities like EEG, NCS/EMG are provided to hospital patients as well as to patients referred from other hospitals.
The department manages and runs a unique plasmaphresis service where thousand of procedures have been done in patients with GBS, myasthenia gravis and other illnesses. This service is provided with the help of an NGO (PMWO).
Department is providing post graduate teaching program of FCPS Neurology and currently 10 residents are getting training in the department. In addition, department provides rotational training in Neurology to residents of Medicine, Ophthalmology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry coming from different hospitals of twin cities.
Department has the honour of producing the highest number of Neurologists than any other department in Pakistan. Under the umbrella of the department 24 neurophysicians have completed their fellowship in the department and are now running neurology departments in different teaching hospitals of Pakistan and abroad.
Over 50 research papers have been published through the department and ongoing research is taking place. Department hashosted and arranged a number of conferences and courses in Neurology
