OpenM4S

Mineral sector involves much more than digging valuable minerals out of the ground. It involves identification and development of a mineral prospect, proper planning, execution and management of ecofriendly mining operations. It also involves diverse key stakeholders like government, mining companies, academia, civil society, labor, financers, and consumers. The objective is to transform the mineral resources into mineral wealth in a sustainable manner, consistent with the social, cultural, and environmental preferences.

Information, computation and communication technologies are used for effective and optimal exploration, utilization and management of mineral resources. These technologies including Geoinformatics, remote sensing and monitoring, global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), internet, information technologies, computation, and software systems.

This project aims to design, develop and deploy an open source Mineral resource Mapping, Modeling and Management System (OpenM4S). Existing information, computation, and communication technologies will be used for acquisition, storage, processing, production, presentation and dissemination of mineral and geoinformation. The proposed system will comprise of 8 coherent modules for:

Digital mapping,
Geo-data management
Geo-data public repository,
Exploratory data handling and estimation,
Mineral resource modeling and visualization,
Mineral and mining cadastre,
Mine planning and design, and
Mine management.
