The Historical City Dera Ghazi Khan has an exceptional prominence on Pakistan’s map for being the center of the country. D.G. Khan Division practically connects all the four provinces of Pakistan, having the integrity of being the eastern Balochistan, western Punjab, Southern KPK and northern Sind.
The Dera Ghazi Khan is located in a strip between the river Indus and the Koh-Suleman range of mountains separating it from the Baluchistan Province. It is surrounded by Dera Ismail Khan on the North and Rajanpur on its South. Indus river flows on the East across which lie the districts of Muzafargarh and Layyah. Loralai and Dera Bugti districts of Baluchistan Province lies on the West separated by the Koh-Suleman range of mountains. The district is spread over an area of 11,294 square kilometers.
The city was founded near the 15th century and named after Nawab Ghazi Khan Mirrani, son of Nawab Haji Khan Mirrani, a Balochi chieftain, who had declared independence from the Langhi Dynasty Sultans of Multan. Together with two other Deras i.e. settlements, Dera Ismail Khan and Dera Fateh Khan, it gave its name to Derajat. Derajat eventually came into the possession of the British after the Sikh War in 1849 and was divided into two districts: Dera Ghazi Khan and Dera Ismail Khan.
Dera Ghazi Khan has a significant literacy rate and so is competing the developed areas of Pakistan.
