Carpet and Rug history:

Afghan handmade carpets and rugs are famous around the world for there designs and long life quality. The intricate detailing of the designs originate from traditional tribal designs including Turkmen, Kazakh, Baloch, and Uzbeks. Many dyes such as vegetable dyes are used to give the product its rich coloring. Afghan hand-made rugs come in many patterns and colors, but the traditional and most common example of an Afghan carpet and rug is the octagon-shaped elephant-foot (Bukhara) print shown in the below picture. The rugs with this print are commonly red in color.
Approximately 97% of the Afghan rugs have been copied under other countries' names like Iran and Pakistan. However, Afghan businessmen or traders with the help from the Government of Afghanistan are seeking ways to end this. Afghan products are beginning to regain their popularity. In early 2008 the Afghan handmade carpets and rugs were put for display in international exhibition in Germany, out of 1442 carpet producers from 80 countries across the globe Afghan carpet won the first position in the competition.[1] Afghan carpets are known to be expensive, but are extremely durable and gain more value as they age in time.
