WHAT IS BSC ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY ?

BSc Engineering Technology is the profession in which knowledge of mathematics and natural science, gained by higher education, experience, and practice, is devoted primarily to the implementation and extension of existing technology for the benefit of humanity. Engineering Technology education focuses primarily on the applied aspects of science and that portion of the technological spectrum closest to product improvement, industrial practices, and engineering operational functions.

BSc Engineering Technology graduates are referred to as Engineering Technologists, and typically occupy careers in industry that tend to be more on the applied side of engineering.

The Department of Engineering Technology offers a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (B.S.E.T.) degree. This degree program is comprised of a comprehensive core and various fields of study from which the student may select in order to best fulfill their needs and interests.

BSC ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY IN PAKISTAN:

B.Sc. Engineering Technology is a 4 year Degree program first time started in Pakistan in the U.E.T Lahore (City Campus) in 2009. Now Islamia University Bahawalpur also initiated this program in Royal College of Science & Technology as its sub campus.
In many field of Engineering Technologies i.e Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Chemical etc and PEC - Pakistan Engineering Council or PTC - Pakistan Technology Council will register the BSc Engineering Technology Graduates as Engineering Technologist (ET) and Professional Engineering Technologist (PET). BSc Engineering Technologist having equal status and scope like BSc Engineers but having different criteria by Engineering works because BSc Engineering Science is a part of theoritical and Design but BSc Engineering Technology is a part of Palanning and Application so thats why both field of Engineering are going parallel but in different ways.

ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIST:

An engineering technologist, is a specialist devoted to the development and implementation of existing technology within a field of engineering. Engineering technology education is more applied than the more theoretical science based engineering degree education. Technologists often work with engineers in a wide variety of projects by applying basic engineering principles and technical skills. It is not unusual for Engineering Technologists to assume senior management positions in industry or to become entrepreneurs. The work of technologists is usually focused on the portion of the technological spectrum closest to product improvement, manufacturing, construction, and engineering operational functions. Engineering technology deals with the same topics as engineering, but is more applied knowledge rather than a purely theoretical knowledge. The mathematics and basic sciences as well as the technical courses in technology programs are taught with more applications and less theory than the related engineering courses. Engineering courses also typically require a higher level of knowledge of mathematics, natural and engineering sciences and prepare a student to continue studies and perform research at the graduate levels. Engineering technology courses generally have labs associated with the courses that require applied or "hands-on" applications of the topics being studied.

Internationally, the Sydney Accord is an agreement signed in 2001 acknowledging the academic equivalence of accredited engineering technology programs in the signatory nations. In some countries, only individuals who have graduated from an accredited curriculum in engineering technology and have a significant amount of work experience in their field may become registered technologists. A technologist's recognition may be in the form of a certification or a professional registration.
