Sugarcane Breeding Sub-Station, Murree

Proper development and exact functioning of reproductive organs is prerequisite for any varietal development program. Like many other plants in sugarcane flowering, is function of photoperiod and temperature regimes. Considering unique requirements of sugarcane plant for flowering, the Sugarcane Breeding Sub-Station (SBSS) was established at Murree in 1950s for variety development. Though SBSS does not situate in geographical coordinates (33.8 degree North) required for functional floral organ development, even then lots of varieties/breeding lines (50+) flowers more or less under natural conditions. This flowering tendency of sugarcane at SBSS reveals the potential of its two experimental sites at:

ii. Charrapani
