Pak-Swiss Technical Training College

Background:

Malakand Division is one of the backward areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan. Most of the people of this division depend upon agriculture. Literacy ratio is very low especially in the field of technical education, due to which majority of the people are unskilled.

Keeping in view the above mentioned situation and the raising needs and demand of the young generation, Pak-Swiss Technical Training Centre (PSTTC) was established in September 2000 with technical and financial assistance of Pak-Swiss Small Scale Enterprises Promotion (SSEP) Program (implemented by Swisscontact Switzerland). Swisscontact has a vast experience in the field of enterprise development and technical trainings.

The purpose of its establishment was to enhance skills of the young generation in different technical trades / technologies and thus to provide income generation and self-employment opportunities on local level.

With the passage of time Pak-Swiss Technical Training Centre became a network and its branches have been extended in the surrounding region i.e. district Buner & Shangla. Both the administrative and teaching staff comprises a team of well-committed, qualified and devoted people. Main branch of Pak-Swiss Technical Training Centre is located at Mingora District Swat, while two sub branches are existing at Besham district Shangla & Sowarai District Buner.

Besides the male, PSTTC Network has extended its activities in the filed of technical and vocational trainings for the female folk of the concerned areas, where the technical courses in the field of vocational embroidery are being imparted.

Since its establishment, thousands of fresh and untrained youth (male & female) have been trained through Pak-Swiss TTC in different technical trades / technologies and thus a visible change could be seen in the market and their life has economically been improved to sufficient extent. Based on the survey, conducted by Pak-Swiss TTC as impact assessment, more than 75 % of the passed out trainees have started their own businesses in Pakistan and have got employment abroad the country.

Legal Status:

• The entire network of Pak-Swiss Technical Training Centres has been affiliated for certification to the passed out trainees with Skill Development Council (SDC) Peshawar, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan. Certification is being made under a joint project of International Labour Organization (ILO), World Bank, Employers Federation of Pakistan (EFP) and National Training Bureau (NTB) Ministry of Manpower, Labor and Overseas Pakistanis.

• Moreover Pak-Swiss TTC has also been affiliated with Trade Testing Board (TTB) Government of Pakistan for certification to the passed out trainees.
