Waqas was posted at Kanju post and about to leave for home the next day but later a night prior an operation was called to hunt 5 – 10 miscreants. His junior offered him to take rest and lead the operation but he refused.

He offered the prayer with his team, recited the surah naas and left for the mission. When they were approaching the site a missile was hit on them that they got escaped from and Waqas killed the person who fired the missile.

Fight broke out and it came as a surprise to them that the miscreants were not 5 – 10, they were more than 100.

During the fight; Waqas fought bravely and saved around 14 soldiers who got injured. He was trying to save one of his other man; when he was shot on his chest and he embraced Shahadaat while reciting the holy verses.

He was awarded Sitar e Basalat. All the 15 soldiers including the one saving whom he embraced shahadaat are alive.
